Boho Weddings and Events

This week’s #weddingwednesday features Boho Wedding and Events which was born out of a love of unconventional weddings and imaginative events.
Boho Weddings and Events: Providing a fun, fresh and modern approach to your big day!
Boho was born out of a love of unconventional weddings and imaginative events. My ideal is to create weddings with a difference, showing people’s individuality through their day. My creative and flexible approach to planning means that my services fit around you, no job is too big or small.  Boho loves a traditional wedding but also loves doing things differently. So create the wedding you want, not the wedding you are told you should have!

My name is Kelly Hood, I’m 38 and live with my Husband Nik and pet cat Dee in Sheffield. I own and run Boho Weddings and Events, where I work as full time wedding planner and wedding blogger.  I LOVE what I do, each day is so varied, I get to meet so many great people and help many wonderful couples create a day that is true and personal to them.

I started researching Boho in June 2009, soon after being made redundant. With a background in fashion design, event management and recruitment I decided to set up Boho Weddings and Events. And in December 2009 my website and Blog went live

This year has been manic, it has gone faster than I could ever imagine, with some fantastic weddings under my belt and some great wedding fairs and events that I have also organised I feel ready for 2011.

Geographically I cover the whole of Yorkshire, Cheshire, Manchester, Derbyshire the east Midlands and Also Ibiza.

I got married in Ibiza, so I decided in the early stages of this year that I should utilise the contacts I had over there and use my experience to plan other peoples. I have 4 Ibiza wedding booked in for next year and more enquiries coming in for 2012.

I focus on the non-traditional bride and groom, the more unconventional couples who are looking for a unique day that really reflects their personality. I am always looking for new and exciting ways to make a wedding different, and believe that every couple should have the wedding they want, not be dictated to by family or friends. I have some amazing weddings booked for next year, all with their own personal touches, I really can’t wait!

Brides and Beauty

For Follow Friday this week I am introducing the fabulous Joyce from Brides and Beauty. Offering fabulous beauty treatments, bridal makeup and beauty advice to local and national media.

My name is Joyce Connor and I am the founder of Brides and Beauty. I do beauty treatments, bridal make up and give beauty advice to local BBC Radio and Local and National Magazines and Bridal websites. I’m based in Caversham in Reading (Berkshire) but cover weddings across the whole of Berkshire, Oxfordshire and North Hampshire.
I have always loved make up and beauty products and having qualified 14 years ago I tried lots of products - and wanted to offer others the best quality products and services too so I established Brides and Beauty in 2006.
I started up my own business because I could see there was a gap in the market for someone that offered quality products and services to the customer.
I also wanted to offer treatments and services to people of all skin tones too, which no-one else in the area was offering at the time and they still don’t. The products I use are the best quality available and I always do a thorough consultation before I start a treatment or makeover to find out what the client wants. I pride myself on the fact that I travel to other countries to find different cosmetics and bring them back to the UK.
I do my best to treat everyone as an individual so that their end result has been customised to suit their specific needs or skin concerns. I travel to the bride’s hotel or wedding venue or their home so that it takes the stress out of their day and they don’t have to worry about getting caught in traffic going to a salon. Most beauty therapists aren’t makeup artists and vice versa, I pride myself on the fact that I can offer a full package to everyone including the groom.

Fiona Kelly Photography

Our Wedding Wednesday blog this week featured Fiona Kelly Photography a London based wedding photographer offering contemporary, friendly and relaxed reportage photography, using available light and only a little direction
Being creative has always been a major part of my life and a love of photography developed from that during school. My dad was an amateur photographer in his youth so I was always around someone with an SLR camera. I studied photography with both my A Level art & graphic design degree courses and did evening courses at the same time to learn more.

A great part of my working life was as a photographic art director for big high street fashion and lifestyle brands, and my photography was always alongside as a personal passion. I finally decided to venture into wedding photography professionally in 2007 after being asked to shoot a number of friends weddings. I slowly realised that I really enjoyed doing it and was getting some great feedback! It seemed the logical step to take it to the next level. I knew my love of photography and my background in art direction held me in good stead to not only be able to cope with the challenges of a wedding day but to create some beautiful, contemporary and interesting images at the same time.

I really wanted to go down the route of doing something fresh and modern and my natural style of reportage & candid photography has taken that on. I love to let the day unfold in front of me and allow the special moments to just appear. I am very good at being discrete and hiding in small corners so no one is aware that I am actually taking pictures! When shooting the groups and couples portraits I like to keep them informal and always have a bit of fun. This way they dont take too much time and aren't seen as a chore.

I have always been a people person and working with so many different couples to capture the story of their wedding day is such a pleasure. I really enjoy taking the time to get to know each couple in the run up, so by the actual wedding day we have a great rapport and feel like much more than just the photographer. As someone who is fairly recently married I totally understand the craziness of the wedding day and how important it is to be you and do things your way, not to mention finding a photographer you can trust that you get on with. I love to go along with all of that so your photos are all about who you are.

When it comes to photography packages my main motto is flexibility. A wedding is individual to the couple and as such what is right for one is not necessarily right for another. I always like to work with each couple so what they get is tailored to their requirements and the coverage they want. Of course, there are always a number set packages too! Although budget is often key, I still think that your wedding photography is all about investing in something that will last forever, your photography is for keeps. With this in mind I offer photographic vouchers that can be bought by guests and used towards the cost of the photography or an album, what better gift could you get!

My business is friendly, personal and professional. I am based in London, work all over the South East of England and will happily travel throughout the UK or further afield.

I am planning on a new photography venture for 2011 and branching out into family and kids portraits. I have recently had a lovely little boy and having had so much fun taking photos of him I finally feel I have the understanding, knowledge and nerve to start taking photos of children!

Always happy to chat, give me a call if you are interested in anything you have read or seen.

Benevolent Brides Host Yorkshire Biggest Charity Wedding Fayre

Benevolent Brides is set to be the biggest charity wedding fayre in Yorkshire on Sunday the 30th January 2011 with all its proceeds going to the charity Women for Women.

Local Business Woman Hayley Hoyle from The Harrogate Wedding Lounge has created Benevolent Brides a new charity wedding fair, after discovering Professor Robert Winston’s charity Women for Women.  Having taken part in various fundraising events for the charity in the past Hayley decided to really make a difference and host Yorkshires biggest charity wedding fair.....and so Benevolent Brides was born.
Hayley said: ‘I am planning for this wedding fayre to be the biggest and newest show in Harrogate and also the biggest charity wedding fayre in Yorkshire. The charity is very close to my heart and I wanted to help raise money for them whilst incorporating something else that I have a passion for.  I wanted to ensure that 100% of the money raised in this event will be sent directly to the charity and I have managed to get help from professionals over Yorkshire to achieve this.
Benevolent Brides will take place at the prestigious Crown Hotel in Harrogate on Sunday the 30th January 2011 between 11am and 4pm. The fayre will bring together the regions best and most exclusive wedding industry professionals for brides, grooms and their families to come and speak with.

The fair  will offer something a bit different to our couples and keep them  busy and entertained with full catwalk productions, entertainment stage, man crèche with casino and bar!, close up magic, competitions, goody bags and we have a few more surprises up our sleeves too!

For further information or to register for your FREE tickets to the show please visit www.benevolentbrides.co.uk

CIA Photography

Our Follow Friday blog this week featured CIA Photography which is owned by Colin Allison and is based in Dumbarton near Glasgow, Scotland where he offers traditional photography with a modern twist. Thanks to Colin who set us some of his fantastic photos to be used in this blog.

My name is Colin Allison and I've been involved in wedding photography since I was a teenager. My father has always been a hobbyist photographer so I developed my interest from him. I was inspired to move into wedding photography not only by shadowing fellow photographers but by following the work of many well known photographers out there and I also worked for Polaroid. We particularly like the work of David Ho.

When I worked at Polaroid I was given the opportunity to use the wonderful 20 x 24 Wisner Instant Camera which is one of the largest format cameras currently in common usage and weighs 235 pounds( 106 kg) sitting on a wheeled-chassis. The results cannot be compared to anything else and each print truly is a unique work of art. A lot of Andy Warhol prints were part of it.

This experience of working in the photographic industry and alongside fellow photographers inspired me to put this to good use when I created CIA photography in 2004. I have grown from photographing friends and family weddings to photographing not only weddings but portraits, commercial work, boudoir and celebrities. We have bookings right up to 2013. We also have a graphic designer who offers unique wedding invitations.

Our slogan is “traditional photography with a modern twist”. We aim to capture all the traditional shots, while at the same time capturing spontaneous moments and ensuring the bridal party relax and enjoy the day without their photography being a chore. We are very flexible to the needs of our couples.

I have had my photographs featured in television adverts and I have photographed several celebrities. However, the main thing is that I get a sense of achievement every time I deliver an album to a couple, or portraits to a family, also when I receive a review on Facebook or a thank you letter/card. I have quite a collection of them and that's all that really matters to me is that I am making my clients happy!

I hope to expand what we offer our customers. I currently offer wedding photography, portraits and commercial photography. We have begun to offer boudoir as “CIA Confidential” and hope to grow this. We are getting lots of requests for pre wedding shoots and this is also an area we hope to develop. We are also hoping to move into new premises which will offer more room in which to undertake portraits for example.

Prospective customers can visit our website for examples of our work, our current price list as well as our contact details.

Your Wedding At Loch Lomond

Our first #weddingwednesday blog of 2011 showcases Your Wedding at Loch Lomond an on-line directory for brides and grooms who are looking to get married in Loch Lomond, Scotland.

Your Wedding at Loch Lomond is an on-line wedding directory for brides and grooms to be getting married at Loch Lomond in Scotland. We are free to use and free to advertise in (providing the supplier can provide to Loch Lomond).

The idea for our directory was born several years ago and we registered several domains then. We spent time meeting with local suppliers to find out what they wanted from a directory. We found that many new and small businesses in particular struggled to find customers due to very high advertising rates in magazines, newspapers and other websites. We came to the decision that our on-line directory would be free to advertise in, and that each interested advertiser would be offered the same advert.

Our not for profit directory went live in June 2010 with just a few suppliers. Now, at the end of the year, we have grown to offer a wide variety of suppliers as well as regular discounts, a discussion forum and wedding fairs.

We also have a blog where we offer additional advice and support as well as interviews and submissions with a variety of wedding suppliers. We also keep our suppliers and brides to be updated through regular email newsletters, our Facebook page and Twitter account.

Our aim of making the directory 'everyone's directory' has been achieved. Its demonstrated by the fact that many advertising requests come from wedding suppliers who have been speaking to our listed suppliers. We do appreciate our suppliers spreading the word and helping with recruiting other suppliers! Many suppliers have become friends with each other, recommending each other, purchasing from each other etc. We love it!

We have made so many friends from our suppliers and received support from many experienced and respected wedding professionals and from other wedding directories

Highlights of this year have included being nominated for six awards, such as 'best business support' and 'best supplier directory'. We've been mentioned in local and national newspapers and bridal magazines. We are also currently on the list of “Top 100 Wedding Tweeters”.

Next year we shall be running a few wedding fairs to allow our brides and grooms to be to meet our suppliers face to face. We also have a first edition brochure with our suppliers' details which is available at our fairs and on our supplier premises. Photographs have been provided by CIA Photography
